Higher Certificate in Reflective Practice

The Higher Certificate is an assessed programme of reflection for people who are wanting to build on their reflective practice skills and change the way they work, to improve outcomes for those they provide care and treatment for.

Some of the work is likely to be useful in building professional portfolios of reflective practice for revalidation purposes.

There is no requirement for prior learning or academic qualifications but participants will need to be able to express themselves in a way that allows the assessor to understand what their reflections have been and how they have used these to improve their own practice or influence others.

It is envisaged that completion of the portfolio will be completed within six months to a year.

Completion can be done as individual participants working alone, as part of small 'in-house' group or

Who is the certificate suitable for?

The Higher Certificate is the  qualification designed for the majority of experienced or qualified staff working in health or social care settings. It will suit those who are reasonably confident learners, or who have some experience of reflective practice. It builds on the Certificate level course, but there is no need to complete the certificate before moving onto the Higher Certificate. .

The Higher Certificate requires participants to complete the reflective practice workbook from the Towards Outstanding series.

Like the certificate, this level of study requires participants to reflect on their own values, how these affect their work and how they can use their behaviours and attitudes to improve how they work.  The key difference is that at this level, participants are required to consider how their practice or the practice they observe fits with the provider policies, legislation or best practice guidance, Participants are required to complete a reflective diary over a short period, carry out observations of care delivery to reflect on and write some basic assignments.
